Tips and How to Information

Removing motors:

  • - Disconnect electrical power from the unit.
  • - Find the wiring diagram, or draw a diagram showing where each wire is going.
  • - If the motor is a PSC type (Permanent-Split Capacitor) note the size and location of the capacitor. Always discharge the capacitor through a resistor before attempting to remove it, to prevent a shock – even after the power is turned off to the unit.
  • - Note the number of motor speeds.
  • - Determine rotation by looking at the nameplate for arrows or rotation markings. On some brands, CW refers to clockwise and CCW means counterclockwise. One good tip is to write or scratch a rotation arrow on the motor before removal.
  • - Note the type of motor mount being used.
